Claire Mariani is the trumpet player for The
Dogz. She has been playing trumpet for 7 years, although her musical career
started much earlier. She began playing piano when she was 5. She played for
two years, then stopped. In the summer before 5th grade, she started taking
trumpet lessons. When school band started during the school year, she signed
up for trumpet with a slight head start. She also played french horn for a
brief period in 6th grade, but switched back to trumpet because in general,
trumpets get more melody parts in orchestra music than french horns. She has
been playing trumpet ever since, for 6 years, and has become very good at
it. Claire also does vocals on three of our songs.
Claire's trumpet is a silver Bach Stradivarius. She got it from Dillon's
Music Store.
Outside of band, Claire enjoys swimming. She has been swimming since she was
5, all year round. She had to stop swimming during the past winter season
for a broken wrist. This might have stopped her swimming but it didn't stop
her trumpet playing. In fact, she played trumpet for First Night Montclair
with a broken wrist! After her wrist healed, she got back into swimming. She
also tried water polo for the first time this spring sports season. Claire
is not sure what she wants to do when she grows up, but she wants to
continue with her musical career.
The picture above is from our third road trip. Claire is playing her silver
Bach Stradivarius trumpet.
