The Dogz are a group of 17 year old
friends who, 6 years ago, decided to combine their musical talents, become a
band and give back to the community.
With the help of their "Leaders of the Pack", Mr. Pat Glynn and Mr. Nathan
Eklund, The Dogz have been performing for 6 years in places like nursing
homes, retirement homes, preschools, and rehabilitation centers,
accumulating over 450 community service hours just in performances and 1,027
community service hours including practice time. They have had the privilege
to play at Trumpets Jazz Club, Montclair, NJ; Cecil's, West Orange, NJ; The
New Jersey Jackals Baseball Team, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and warm up for the Montclair
Community Band and No More Tears at the Mylestone Equine Rescue fundraiser.
The summer of 2006 brought their first "Road Trip" which included The Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland, OH; Kennywood Park, Pittsburgh, PA; and
the Veteran's Hospital, Erie, Pa.
Their travels home included a very emotional stop at the Flight 93 temporary
memorial in Shanksville, PA. This resulted in their latest endeavor, Forty
Gigs for Forty Heroes. The Dogz completed their 40th gig on December 7th,
2007, raising a total of $11,642.00! Funds have been donated to the
Tower of Voices, a large windchime that will be built at the site of the
crash with one chime for each life lost. A special thanks to all
of you who supported The Dogz in this endeavor.
The summer of 2007 brought the second annual "Road Trip", this time with
just five band members: Anna, drums; David, guitar; Nicole, bass; James,
saxophone; and Claire, trumpet. Due to the hard work of all the members, it
was very successful. This trip included some old favorites, like The Rock
and Roll Hall of Fame, Cleveland, OH; Kennywood Park, Pittsburgh, PA;
Parkside Retirement Home, Northeast, PA; and 1 new stop, Thunder over
Michigan Airshow, Detroit, MI
And during the summer of 2008, The Dogz went on their third annual road
trip. All six band members were able to go this time. They were invited back
to play at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Parkside Retirement home, but
they also played at a vintage baseball game in Cleveland, OH, and the VA
Hospital in Erie.
2009 brings a new genre of music. The Dogz celebrated 50 years of
Motown, with a new set of Motown favorites. Included were such favorites as
My Girl, I Heard it Through the Grapevine, and Superstition. With a premiere
at Montclair First Night, this music has become popular in almost all
venues.
The Dogz now look forward to the 2010 road trip, which includes a long journey down Historic Route 66. The band will stop at nine different veterans' homes along the way to honor our nation's heroes. Just like the song, the band will stop in St. Louis, MO; Oklahoma City, OK; and Amarillo, TX, among many other cities stretching across 8 different states.
Their musical style starts in the 40's and moves right on through today's
popular hits. With a strong rhythm and horn section, the music written for
jazz ensembles has become their favorite.
