Anna Mariani is the drummer for The Dogz. She
has been playing drumset for 7 years, ever since 5th grade. However, Anna
started her drumming career playing djembe for a children's ballet class
when she was 5 years old. She played for a year, then stopped. No one
thought she would continue pursuing anything musical. But when she was in
fifth grade, she was eligible to join the school band. At first, she was
not going to sign up for anything. But after some persuasion, she decided to
sign up for percussion, because of her previous experience. She started on
snare and auxilary percussion, and eventually gained an interest in playing
drumset. When we formed the band in 6th grade, she progressed to learning
jazz and rock drumset and started taking lessons. 7 years later, she has
become very good at drumset, snare, and all sorts of orchestral percussion,
such as timpani, marimba, xylophone and cymbals.
Anna has three drumsets. She has a set of red Pacific drums, a light brown
set of Anderson drums, and a mahogany set of Anderson drums.
Outside of band, Anna enjoys running cross country, creative writing, and
drawing comic strips. She even has her own comic strip about two horses
named Hector and Paco. She has her own website for these comics,
www.hectorandpaco.com.
When she grows up, Anna is thinking about going into advertising or
architecture. She is not yet sure of her future plans, but she does want to
keep music a part of her life.
The picture above is from our third road trip. Anna is playing her light
brown Anderson Drums. They were made for her by one of her drumset teachers,
Daryl Anderson.
